Meet Mariela Lopez, Regeneracion’s new Electric Vehicle Equity Coordinator!
Mariela is a recent graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara. She has studied Sociology with a focus on Environmental Sociology and a minor in Italian Studies. As a daughter of agricultural workers, she has been exposed to the inequalities and unjust working conditions that they have had to face. Her personal experiences and her studies at UCSB have led her to become passionate about environmental justice and have inspired her to become more involved in the community. As Regeneracion’s Electric Vehicle Equity Coordinator, she will be working with the community to develop a clean energy future through work that focuses on sustainable and equitable access to transportation.
At the Climate of Hope Forum 2021, Leslie Aguayo, Environmental Equity Program Manager of the Greenlining Institue emphasized that creating an equity framework for transportation is a crucial step towards a sustainable future. She stated that “We will see the return on our investment in equity when all people regardless of their race, income, ability, gender age, or zip code have access to what they need to thrive in a clean energy future.”
