Thanks to our supporters and organizational partners, Regeneración is growing!
We're delighted to introduce two new staff members.
Raudel Covarrubias - Administrative Coordinator: Raudel is yet another residential trailblazer in the Pajaro Valley. Born and raised by the Watsonville community, his curiosity led him to be involved with and eventually hired by the Environmental Science Workshop during his childhood. Influenced by this experience, after graduating from Watsonville High School he received his B.S. in Biology from UC Santa Barbara. While attending college, he stayed involved with his community and helped establish Pajaro Valley Pride in 2015. He is now the Vice President for the Board and continues to do work for the community and collaborate with other local organizations and businesses.
As Administrative Coordinator Raudel will help his community become more resilient as climate impacts escalate, by strengthening Regeneración and ensuring its success.
Student Intern - Azucena Sandoval is currently a junior at Watsonville High School who is driven by a deep passion for engineering, environmentalism, and technology. She aspires to leverage these interests to make a meaningful impact on her community and beyond as she progresses through her career. She is also dedicated to advocating for others and ensuring that everyone has access to the essential resources and opportunities they deserve. Outside of her academic and advocacy work, Azucena enjoys running, reading, and learning as much as she can about the world around her.
Raudel and Azucena will help Regeneración reach strategic plan milestones to increase our organizational capacity to partner on and eventually manage large state and federal grant awards and develop out an educational program.
In other news, we are also proud to announce we will be partnering on several innovative new projects rolling out over the next few months.
1) ¡Adelante Watsonville! is a project to expand equitable, sustainable mobility options in Watsonville.
2)Monterey Bay Electric Vehicle Climate Adaptation and Resilience Framework in Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito Counties. This project, led by AMBAG, will create a roadmap for the Monterey Bay Area to assess current electric vehicle charging infrastructure vulnerability to climate change and implement strategies to ensure that the build-out of EV charging infrastructure increases equity and resiliency in the face of climate change.
3) Regional Adaptation for Climate Resilience of Monterey Bay Coastal Communities
This $71.4 million award includes $1.7 million for the Monterey Bay Area Climate Justice Collaborative (CJC) that Regeneración initiated together with Santa Cruz non profit Ecology Action.
The award to the California Marine Sanctuary Foundation was recommended by the federal Department of Commerce and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and is part of the $575 million given to support projects through the Biden administration’s Climate Resilience Regional Challenge program. The competitive program is part of the nearly $6 billion total investment made under the Biden-Harris administration’s Inflation Reduction Act.

Good Climate News!
Halting an airport expansion in the U.S. designed to serve privatejets
Climate activists have been opposing a proposal to significantly expand asecondary airport near Boston, in the U.S. The expansion is proposedprimarily to enable far more private jet flights. These flights of planesowned by the very wealthy, are a significant source of unnecessaryclimate-destroying emissions. After months of uproar and thousands ofpublic comments, activists recently persuaded the state government toreject the project’s environmental impact report over its failure toadequately address the climate impacts of the proposed airport expansion, thus delaying, if not ending the project.

Bad Climate News - Earth is heating up!
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres issued a Call to action on extreme heat in response to the deadly impacts of rising temperatures all over the world.
